It will be led by the Vicar of Bolton, the service will include a two-minute silence, gun fire and a wreath laying ceremony.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Mohammed Ayub, said: “The concert will be a special evening and a fitting way to remember those who have risked their life and, in some cases, paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms in past and present conflicts all over the world.

“In addition, the gatherings in Victoria Square over the weekend are another way residents can come together to show their support for the armed forces and remember those who have lost their lives in battle.”

The Remembrance Tide Flag (Poppy Flag) is now flying above the town hall to mark the start of the Royal British Legion’s 2023 Poppy Appeal.

Speaking about the importance of the Remembrance weekend, Cllr Ryan Bamforth, Bolton Council's Armed Forces Champion, said: “This weekend is much deserved and much needed, the concert is a celebration of our Armed Forces and all funds raised go to the Bolton Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and Air Cadet Forces.

“We are asking for everyone to come along and buy programmes and memorabilia on the day to help our future leaders and the dedicated volunteers.

“On the Saturday there will be a short ceremony for the Armistice Day starting at 10.55am on the Albert Square before the main Remembrance Parade on Sunday November 12 which will see veterans, serving personnel and cadets standing shoulder to shoulder to remember those that gave all.

“It's important to remember those that gave all, those that never came home so that we can appreciate what we have because of their sacrifices.”

Cllr Bamforth will also be taking part in a sleepout whereby he will be sleeping rough over the course of the Remembrance weekend.

He said: “I'll be doing my 48-hour rough sleep from Saturday 11 until Monday November 13 again in Horwich.

“I've done it for the last 3 years and I choose a different charity every year, this year I'm doing it for Veteran’s into Logistics.

“It's in hopes of raising awareness that soldiers and veteran's struggles don't go away after the Remembrance Parade. This is why I continue until the Monday.”
