You’ve heard the phrase elephant in the room - here’s the elephant in the subway!
This was one of two elephants based on Bolton’s coat of arms which were part of the tiled design for what was described as the ‘Heritage Underpass’ beneath the St Peter’s Way extension that was created in 1988.
The underpass which ran from Charles Street featured designs created by tilers Michael Connor and David Walsh which also included notable Bolton landmarks.
Do you remember the subway elephants?
