A Bolton primary school is celebrating ‘excellence in education’ as the national Key Stage results were released by the department for education.

Beaumont Primary School achieved extraordinary success in this year's Key Stage 2 results, said headteacher, Stacey Postle who added that school leaders are ‘bursting with pride’.

A brilliant 97 per cent of pupils have not only met but exceeded the expected standards in mathematics and 52 per cent of these pupils were working at a greater depth, demonstrating a deeper understanding of the subject.

The average scale score of 109 places them among the brightest young minds in the country.

From their Key Stage one results in Year 2, when Covid was at its worst in our town, the children have reached significantly above the national average amount of progress which places Beaumont in the top five per cent of the country for the second year running.

Reading results show children are above average with 94 per cent achieving the expected standard or higher and writing results show they are reaching average results.

Mrs Postle said the  school had implemented innovative teaching strategies, created multiple opportunities to engage parents, fostered an environment that fuels our pupils' passion and curiosity for learning.

Stacey Postle Head Teacher said: “Our vision statement set out in September 2018 clearly states that children will leave us as ‘lifelong learners’ and that is what we achieve year on year.

“I am immensely proud of the children’s achievements but not surprised.

The Department for Education said more primary school pupils  are meeting reading standards.

Education standards continue to improve as new statistics on the phonics screening check show 79 per cent of five and six-year-olds met the expected standard, up from 75 per cent last year.

The phonics screening check was first introduced in 2012 when only 58 per cent met the expected standard.

Since 2012, there has been a 21 per cent point increase in attainment in the check, highlighting the government’s commitment to raising standards across the board.
