A Bolton man has been banned from a number of properties in the town centre after a string of thefts as he was jailed.

Andrew Ryan also burgled the garage of a house on Wigan Road, Deane, while the occupant was inside.

Bolton Crown Court heard he was already banned from a number of shops which he stole from and so breached a criminal behaviour order multiple times.

Along with two other men, he burgled a home on August 11 last year.

After the garage door was unlocked they went in and Ryan made off with a jet washer.

Tom Farr, prosecuting, read a victim impact statement from the woman whose house it was.

She said: “I am very cross with myself for forgetting to close the garage door.

“No one has the right to enter my property and take my stuff.

“I do not want them to be able to do this to anyone else.”

Between July 25 and August 4 2023 he was involved in thefts from 16 shops.

He was banned from 12 of these so breached the community behaviour order by entering the premises.

Mr Farr added: “The total amount of property taken was £836 with £493.94 being recovered.”

Ryan, 49, of Deansgate, Bolton, appeared in court to be sentenced after admitting burglary, 16 thefts and 12 breaches of a community behaviour order.

Oliver Jarvis, defending, said he was working to address traumatic events in his childhood and was reducing his methadone intake.

He added: “He is determined on release to be drug free.”

District Judge Richard Clews said: “I am extremely sorry to hear what you have been through.

“I hope you understand there is a limited to the extent to which I can take that into account.”

He jailed him for 15 months and applied a criminal behaviour order, banning him from more than 40 spots in the centre of Bolton, for five years.
