Police swooped on Bolton town centre after two suspected wanted men were spotted.
Visitors to the town centre saw a number of police on foot and in vehicles - with a police van spotted on Bridge Street and a car on Deansgate.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said that officers were 'dealing with two wanted men'.
One witness said: "I saw a police car with flashing lights at the top of Bridge Street.
"There was another by McDonald's and a lot of police on foot.
"I have also seen two police cars barrelling away from Deansgate."
Police have recently stepped up patrols in Bolton town centre, both during the the day and at night, as part of special operations.

Almost 50 arrests have been made in Bolton town centre as part of operation to tackle night crime - which has resulted in a huge fall in drink spiking and robbery.
A new police “high street squad” has been sent in to Bolton town centre to tackle robberies, burglaries and shoplifting.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) team has been deploying newly recruited officers, supported by senior officers, into Bolton town centre over the last few months to help support security staff and identify theft hotspots.
So far, they claim the team has already arrested and charged people for shoplifting and robbery crimes as well as various kinds of anti-social behaviour.
