EACH week we love to delve into our archives to try to find old photographs from Bolton throughout the ages
This time we have found some images of people having lots of fun at fairs and bazaars in the area.
These events would be the highlights of the social calendar for churches, schools and community groups.
One of the photos shows helpers around food stall at St Michaels School on Green Lane in 1981
Also featured include St Matthew’s Autumn Fair where there was a home bakery stall in November 1981 which was raising funds for the church.
Another photo is of the ‘rescue fair’ for repairs to St Paul’s Parochial Hall in Astley Bridge in 1981.
Meanwhile, entertainer Bob Williamson was helping raise money towards the Christmas Party for the tenants of Hulton Lane and Cleveland Gardens in 1981.
Among the other events Silverwell Streets Sports Centre swimming pool fundraiser, Canon Slade autumn fair, a Blue Peter Bring and Buy sale at St Thomas and St John’s in Lostock and St Mary’s and St Andrew’s Boothstown and their Prelude to Christmas event.
