A popular pub has closed its doors today in preparation for a huge refurbishment
The Blundell Arms on Chorley Old Road in Bolton closed its doors today ( Saturday, October 7) for a short period while it undergoes a six-figure investment.
The pub is set to reopen its doors to customers in November, following completion of some major renovations to the pub, both internally and externally, which bosses say will see the pub and diner improved.
A spokesman for the pub said: "The Blundell Arms on Chorley Old Road, Horwich, Bolton, will be closing its doors for a short period whilst it undergoes a six-figure investment.
"The Chef & Brewer site, is set to reopen its doors to customers in November, following completion of some major renovations to the pub, both internally and externally."
A grand opening will take place once work is completed.
In a statement the pub owners said: “We’ll be saying goodbye for a little while soon as make a few very exciting changes."
The pub is in a Grade II listed building and in July, plans were submitted to add a new veranda and an extended terrace.
There will be a pathway created with an archway under the refurbishment plans.
The Grade II listed building also holds interest as the Blundell Arms was historically used as a courthouse in the 18th and 19th centuries.
It was also used to host coroner’s inquests and the cellar has been used as a mortuary in the past.
In the plans submitted to Bolton Council, work will include the erection of free-standing glass and metal veranda next to the existing modern extension.
The existing terrace to the south of the proposed veranda would be enlarged and bound by new stone piers and lanterns with improved flagstone paving towards a new southern entrance.
The planning application said: “The principal aim of the proposed works is to provide improvement to the internal and external areas of the pub, through creation of a small expansion of the building to the north-west which includes a covered terrace area and landscaping works to enhance outdoor seating areas and support outdoor dining.”
