Bolton passengers have been warned to plan ahead amidst train strikes TODAY.

It comes as members of the drivers’ union Aslef at 16 train operators in England are taking strike action today and Wednesday, coinciding with the annual conference of the Conservative Party in Manchester.

Ticket officers were at Bolton train station this morning advising passengers that there were no trains running today.

A sign can be seen in the station that says: “As a result of ASLEF industrial action, no Northern services will operate on Saturday September 30 and Wednesday October 4.

The Bolton News: “Check your journey and further services with other train operators before travelling.

“Additional disruption is expected from Monday 2 to Friday October 6 due to action short of strike called by ASLEF.

“Check before you travel.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the strike action.

Many parts of the country will have no services on strike days, and those that do run will start later and finish earlier than usual.

Operators warning of no services include Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, Northern, Southeastern and Transpennine Express.

Drivers banned overtime on Friday and will refuse to work rest days again next week, from October 2 to 6, which is expected to cause disruption.

The union said train companies have always failed to employ enough drivers to provide a proper service.

Normal Northern services will operate tomorrow and on October 7 and October 8.
