A popular sandwich chain has relocated to the town centre as  it prepares to leave Crompton Place Shopping Centre.

Subway opened on the corner of Deansgate and Oxford Street yesterday.

It is the latest business to move out of the shopping centre, which is earmarked for a multi-million pound development, with the Crompton Place Subway branch set to close 'soon'.

The unit was formerly home to a Carphone Warehouse, but had stood empty for a while.

Work has been taking place in recent weeks at the premises.

Franchise owner Saira Ahmed said: "It has been going quite well. We also own the Subway by Home Bargains on Newport Street."

Speaking about the location of the shop, she said: "It is quite good. I think that it will improve in time when people get to know that we're here, we will have more regular customers.

"It is good though, it is very close to the Market Place, people won't have to walk as far."

Primark is also to relocate from Crompton Place to The Market Place as the council works to clear the site for redevelopment.

The clothes store will move into the site of what was Debenhams, which closed for the last time around two years ago.

The council said the relocation was 'a significant step' in its attempts to clear Crompton Place for redevelopment as a part of the Bolton Town Centre Masterplan.
