A playing field has been ruined by off-road bikes leaving tyre marks, say people living nearby.

The stretch of field opposite Brodick Drive issued by dog walkers, children, and local football teams, but the community of Breightmet say this has been ruined by off-road bikers, who are leaving muddy tyre marks on the grass.

This means people must avoid the muddy patches and football teams cannot use the fields to play on.

People are calling for the council to take action against the illegal off-road bikes.

One man, who did not wish to be named, said: “They play football and rounders and so on, at the playing fields.

“But it’s become a ring road for off-road bikes, with push bikes, electric bikes and even motorbikes on there.

“Last night I was walking my dog and as I was coming into the fields on Adelaide Street, a motorbike came past me with no number plates.

“He should not have been there, and as soon as he got to the grass, he spun the bike making horrible marks on the ground, then started doing doughnuts.”

Residents also reported seeing gangs of riders hanging around near the fields, with their bikes and despite reporting it numerous times, say nothing has yet been done about it.

The resident said: “I just feel sorry for the ones who play and pay for the fields, because they may not be able to play on it now.

“It’s been going on for some time now and while police and the council say they are clamping down on it, nothing seems to be happening.”

Breightmet Cllr, Sean Fielding said he was aware of the issues and recalled a PACT meeting in which police said they would bid for an off-road unit to come to Bolton to tackle off-road bikers.

But this team is currently in Oldham, and people in Bolton will have to wait till the bid.

Cllr Fielding said: “Along with the other councillors, we said we would support a bid for the team to come to Bolton next.

“There are issues not just here, but around Harwood Golf Club, so it needs to be dealt with.”

Residents are calling for a gate or fence to be put up to stop bikes being ridden onto the grass.

One man said: “What they can do is put up a small fence because it’s not fair how muddy it is that my dog gets dirty going on it too.”

Police have been recently cracking down on off-road bikes causing a nuisance.

They have warned off-road bikers they will seize their bikes if they ignore 'no go' signs.
