As increasing criticism is levelled at Bolton’s town centre demise with the exit of Wilco, will no one at the council offer any relief or hope?
The Market Hall with all the individually-owned, specialist shops was brilliant! Instead the council changed it all and attracted major retailers like Debenham's, Zara and H&M who couldn’t make it work so eventually left.
Why did it not work? Because the same councillors upheld the town’s parking charges.
How could they be so ridiculously stupid when 15 minutes away up Chorley New Road there is Middlebrook with dozens of top notch shops and restaurants with free parking?
In addition just 20 minutes down the M60 is the Trafford Centre with A-list retailers like Selfridge’s, again with free parking.
Bolton’s council is not fit for purpose and regrettably the glaring proof of this lies in its dilapidated streets.
Bank Street and Church Wharf has remained a bomb site for over five years whilst the council boasts about building student apartments on the former Moor Lane bus station!
No other word to describe our council and town planners than “pathetic”
