A Bolton restaurant and takeaway is in the running to be named the best in the country.

Spice Island, a Bangladeshi restaurant and takeaway in Bolton, has been nominated in the prestigious, Asian Curry Awards 2023 in the takeaway category.

This is not the first time the curry house has been nominated and is hoping to taking the trophy home for Bolton.

Manager Joynal Uddin said: “The first we heard about it was when a staff member sent us a link of a story online The Bolton News did about the shortlist.

“So, it was an extremely pleasant surprise to hear we were shortlisted with another Bolton establishment.

The Bolton News:

“As a family run business, it’s really heartwarming that all the hard work from our loyal staff and family members over the last 29 years we have been open is being recognised by one of the most respected and prestigious organisations in the curry industry, dubbed the ‘ Curry Oscars’ The Asian Curry Awards .

“We would like also to thank all our customers who have been so loyal to us over the last difficult few years and our hardworking staff and family members who have helped us get this far.”

Spice Island is not the only restaurant in Bolton to be in with a chance to win an award, as Achari on Crook Street, is named in the restaurant category.

This means, both places could walk away with an award on the night held at the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday, November 19.

The Bolton News:

Mr Uddin said: “We are really happy and proud that there’s two Bolton curry houses in the shortlist out of all from the northwest and especially proud that we are the only Bangladeshi takeaway in the shortlist from the North West.

“Hopefully we’ll be reaching the finals and bringing home the top prize to Bolton.

“We wish the other establishment good luck and hopefully at least one of us will be bringing home an award that Bolton can be proud of.”

The winners in each category will then be decided by a panel of judges from the Asian Catering Federation, which organises the event.
