Police closed off all lanes on St Peter's Way southbound this morning after emergency services were called to a 'concern for welfare'.
Police and ambulance were called at 8.08am today. (Tuesday)..
There was a full closure on the southbound carriageway of the A666 from Kearsley Island to Bradford Street for around 40 minutes, with heavy traffic in the area.
Police confirmed the incident was a concern for welfare and a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from Greater Manchester Police at 8.08am to attend an incident for a concern for welfare at junction three of the M61.
“We currently have an ambulance at the scene as well as a response vehicle and a critical care doctor is on their way.”
Traffic was backed up on the motorway as well as Bolton roads as drivers found alternative routes into the town centre and out towards Manchester.
The roads are now open, and the traffic is easing.
