A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a home.

Police were called to a property on Bushell Street in Deane at around 11.20am on Sunday after receiving a request for help from the North West Ambulance Service.

The initial call was made for the concern for the welfare of a woman, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 37-year-old woman died.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning while enquiries are ongoing.

Forensics officers and paramedics were seen as the street was sealed off.

Today, Monday, police kept a home on Bushell Street sealed off as well as all of Back Nunnery Street which is behind the address where the incident took place.

Detective Inspector Janet Malone, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district, said: “We are continuing to investigate all of the details of this incident and have moved quickly to look at all details and evidence available to us.

“We have a man in custody, but we are still working to fully establish the circumstances of what tragically led to the death of this woman. I appreciate that this will come as concerning news for those in the area, but I want to stress that we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“In addition, your local officers will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have – if you have any queries, they can provide advice and reassurance on the matter.”

Residents spoke about their shock of the incident and said they had seen a man being arrested.

One said: “I know that a man was taken away in handcuffs.

“I saw a man getting arrested, that was at about 11am yesterday (Sunday).

“The road was blocked off.

“There were forensics here and CSI.

“I have lived here 25 to 30 years, it is definitely out of character.”

Another woman said she was told by police a woman had died.

She said: “Someone passed away.

“That is what were told, that a woman has died.

“I saw somebody being arrested on Sunday morning.

“It is a shock.

“It is a lovely area, a lovely quiet area.

“The neighbours here are really lovely.”
