Emergency services rushed to the scene of a crash involving a bus and a car.

Atherton Fire Station responded to a call at 3.56pm with reports of a road traffic collision (RTC) on Newbrook Road, Over Hulton.

Upon arrival the car was on fire and firefighters put the fire out and put a cordon in place to close the road.

Police were also in attendance, along with the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Fire services remained on the scene for around 30 minutes.

Watch manager Andrew Leyland said: “There was an RTC involving one car and one bus.

“There was no person trapped.

“The car was on fire, and we put the fire out and closed the road.

“We isolated the battery on the bus to make it safe.

“We used breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“After the fire was extinguished, we left the scene for police to recover both vehicles.

“Colleagues from the police attended to close off the road, and NWAS attended to see if anyone was injured, but no one was injured.

“Fortunately, the bus had no passengers on.”
