In a new study figures have revealed the best UK places to rent with kids, looking at factors such as average rent prices, number of schools, number of kid-friendly activities and parks, as well as the number of recorded crimes.

And within this, Bolton has placed second with a family friendly score of 7.08 out of ten.

Bolton was rated for the presence of an impressive 82.08 schools per 100,000 people ensures access to quality education, with 20 ‘outstanding’ schools, fostering a strong foundation for young minds.

Moreover, data shows Bolton boasts an impressive 84.2 child-friendly activities per 100,000 people, enriching children's lives with abundant recreational opportunities.

The town's also has an abundance of outdoor spaces with 7.08 parks per 100,000 people, creating spaces for play and exploration.

Crime wise Bolton had 25,570.5 recorded crimes per 100,000 people (2022-2023), which reflected a secure atmosphere for families.

The availability of 4.2 nurseries and 41.0 childminders per 100,000 people reflects the town's support for working parents, offering a comprehensive childcare network.

Additionally, 1.4 hospitals and clinics per 100,000 people prioritise family health and well-being.

Bolton was beaten by Derry which came in at first place with a family friendly city score of 7.47 out of ten.

Andrew Cardwell, Managing Director at Cardwells Estate Agents said he believes Bolton should have been in first place for several reasons.

He said: “It is no surprise that Bolton ranks so highly in this study.

“Bolton is a wonderful place to live, and this investigation just confirms in essence what we all already know!

“This investigation looks specifically at those who are renting with children, and it has rightly considered the wonderful schools that Bolton has to offer, all the way through from preschool level to master’s degree level at Bolton University.

“So many of the primary schools are classed as 'outstanding' in Bolton, it’s no wonder that they are so popular, we are lucky to have so many in our town.

“It’s also interesting to see that Derry which is the only city to rank higher than Bolton overall, only has 4.78 parks per 100,000 people while Bolton has a whopping 7.08 parks per 100,000 people.

“There are wonderful parks in Bolton for families to play and relax, but Bolton also has stunning countryside such as the Jumbles, Rivington and the West Pennine Moors which provide fabulous green space for families to explore and enjoy too.

“This does not even take into account the superb rating of 84.2 “kid friendly activities per 100,000” which again is significantly highly than Derry, in the number one position, which can offer only 29.9 activities.

“Bolton is a fabulous place with so much for families to enjoy and wonderful facilities, I’m only surprised that Bolton didn’t rank first in this study.”
