Harper Green School
A lot has happened at Harper Green School since September 2022.
In December the new build, B Block, costing £1.9 billion was opened boasting state-of-the-art Dance and Drama studios, alongside 3 spacious teaching classrooms.
In January, we re-branded; as the school comes up to it’s centenary in 2027 the old logo representing the Fern and the gauntlet no longer represented what we stand for as a community school with our vision, values and ethos. The new logo incorporates representations of our 4 commitments: learning; community; personal development and experience.
Ofsted has also inspected our school and it is with great pride that we can say that Ofsted has deemed our school to be ‘Good’ in all areas.
The hard work our Middle Leaders have done on developing a rigorous and challenging curriculum was acknowledge by the Inspectors who stated that “Leaders have thought carefully about the curriculum that they want their pupils to learn. They have created a well-organised and ambitious curriculum for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders have focused on making sure that they have clearly identified what pupils need to know at each stage of their learning before they move on to the next stage.”
The opening paragraph of our Ofsted Inspection Report sums up our school: “Pupils are proud to attend this school. They describe it to inspectors as being a safe and friendly place. Pupils value staff at the school and appreciate how well they know them each individually. Pupils and staff told inspectors that the school’s values underpin all aspects of school life. The values to ‘take part, work hard and do the right thing’ were seen in action during the inspection.”
Head of School Ms Heppenstall said, “At Harper Green we ensure each student is able to discover their dreams and leave school with the qualifications and skills to enable them to achieve their ambitions and transform their lives.”
Last year our P8 score was the best in Farnworth with 74 of our students achieving a Grade 9 and 17% of our cohort achieving a Grade 7 or higher. We are incredibly proud that we challenge, support and nurture our students to become the best versions of themselves. We help and support all our students to achieve their very best, so that they can realise their aspirations when they leave us.
Prospective students and their families are invited to come and look around our school and see what it means to be ‘HARPER’ at our annual Open Evening on Thursday 14th September. Senior Leaders, Key Department staff, Pastoral Leaders and safeguarding leads will be available and on hand to explain how we will challenge and support your child through our school. There will also be the chance to take part in interactive learning experiences, challenges and activities in each of the subject areas.
Harper Green School has, as reported by Ofsted 2023 “a positive and welcoming atmosphere around the school. Pupils behave well in both lessons and around the site. They treat each other and adults with respect.”
We are proud of our school, our students and the community we serve, and we look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort on the 6th September, and you into our community at our Open Evening on the 14th September.
