Police have been working to stamp out anti-social behaviour in Bolton including responding to reports of fires being set in the grounds of a high school.

Police officers along with Special Constables attended Thornleigh Salesian College in Astley Bridge following reports that youths had been setting fire to the astro turf surface.

Neighbourhood officers say they hope the presence of police will stop any futher incidents.

The crackdown is part of the Safe4Summer campaign running Bolton.

They also responded to a report of there being off road bikes on Longsight Lane in Bradshaw.

They were there within 10 minutes but found the bikes had left the area.

Police in the team also carried out road safety enforcement in Bromley Cross.

Four drivers were reported for offences including wearing a seatbelt and heading through a red light.

After this officers activated emergency lights and headed to reports of a road traffic collision on Victoria Road, Horwich.

But they found it was a hoax call from a phone box.

Further such calls were received from the same area, which police said placed those who have genuine emergencies at risk.

Later, police seized a vehicle for having no insurance on Chorley New Road in Heaton.

The driver believed his insurance renewed automatically but it transpired a text message had been sent from the company saying he had to renew it manually.

The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported.
