Detectives have released an image of a group of people they are looking to locate following the stabbing of two men earlier this week.

Greater Manchester Police have now released the image of several people they want to speak to who were walking on the canal path and may have witnessed the serious incident that took place nearby on Dale Street on Wednesday, August 16, at around 6.30pm.

A man remains in a critical condition in hospital for life-threatening injuries. The other man, who sustained serious injuries, has now been released from hospital.

Three men were initially arrested - two have been released with no charge and the third, a 21-year-old man, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police Incident Team are also continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Detectives in the Major Incident Team are following lines of enquiry in relation to six men who were believed to be at the scene at the time.

The scene at Piccadilly Basin has now been reopened and can be accessed by members of the public, and there will be an increased police presence over the coming days, whilst the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector, David Moores, of the Serious Crime Division of the Major Incident Team said: "We are looking to identify the people in this photograph, particularly the group of three and the two people on the bench next to them.

"We believe that they must have seen something, and we are keen to speak to them.

"We have a major incident public portal Public Portal (mipp.police.uk) where any information can be submitted.

"We can also be contact via 101, quoting log number 3244-16082023."
