We’re coming to the end of week four of the six-week school holidays – hope you’re hanging on in there!
The summer break is whizzing by, a mix of many rainy days, some sunny ones and approximately 7,000 requests of ‘mum, can I have an ice cream’.
If, like me, you’re looking for ways to tire the kids out, get some fresh air in their lungs and keep them off YouTube for a few hours, then look no further than Open Air Bounce in Over Hulton.
The spacious outdoor bounce park for families is located on Umberton Farm, just off the M61, and is home to 14 different inflatables – bouncy castles, slides, obstacle and assault courses.
The spacious site is perfect for kids of all ages to burn off some energy, scaling the giant slides and bouncing to their hearts’ content.
There’s a sandpit area with deckchairs, buckets and spades, which was lovely to sit by on a glorious afternoon with a chilled £3 bottle of Peroni from the Open Air Bar.
There are also a couple of smaller bouncy castles, for under fours to enjoy.
The family-run business set up on the site for the Easter holidays and returned last month, running sessions until Sunday September 3.
There are three sessions a day – 10am to 12pm, 1pm to 3pm and 4pm to 6pm, costing £12.50 for ages five and over.
There are a handful of small fairground rides, for which you need tokens costing £1.50 each, as well as food and drink stalls.
Some sessions have extra entertainment, such as a foam party, teddy bears picnic and football freestyling demonstrations.
We were lucky enough that our visit coincided with the foam party, which saw owner Leighton Mills spraying delighted kids of all ages – and some grown ups – with a soapy blaster as tunes blared.
A change of clothes, towel and flip flops are advised for this activity, and it’s easy to see why as two sodden and smiling children emerged from the suds.
A great way to entertain the family for a couple of hours, let’s hope for some more of those sunny days between now and the end of the holidays.
