Bolton is now home to the UK’s biggest JYSK store as the Danish retailer opened its doors in the town this week after a massive refurbishment.
As part of plans to improve and update its UK stores, JYSK, had a grand re-opening of its first XL store at Gate Retail Park.

The existing Bolton JYSK retail space has been transformed into a JYSK XL store.
And now, Ciaron Hearns, JYSK sales and marketing manager, UK, and Ireland, has said they are happy to be opening in Bolton.
He said: “I’m feeling very excited to be honest, Bolton was one of the first four stores we opened in the UK back in 2010 so having the opportunity to first and foremost flip it from a 2.0 concept to a new 3.0 concept was fantastic in itself, but to be able to expand the retail space will allow for extra articles in and give customers a shopping experience has been really good.
“We are excited to get going, it’s been a long journey for the teams, its been under construction somewhat over the last two to three months so we are very happy to get it to the place it is now and receive Bolton customers well.”
Ciaron said JYSK wanted to invest into Bolton because it was one of the first to initially open.
He said: “Bolton was one of the first four stores and we have a programme ongoing at the moment where we are transitioning all of our 2.0 stores into 3.0 stores so when Bolton came up and was available to start the transformation, we were obviously very eager.
“As it was one of the original four stores it was an obvious choice to get going with it so it took a little bit longer than we would have liked to, but we are here now, and we are ready to go.”
He said: “There were people here at the opening this morning ready to come in so that should tell you that people are excited in the area, Bolton seems like a fairly tight knit community, so I think everyone knew about the opening and I think everyone has been happy with what they have seen so far.
“So yes, so far so good and hopefully it stays that way.”
The Bolton News asked Ciaron about the current situation with shops closing in the town centre and how the community can help keep stores open.
Ciaron said: “We had a quick look around the high streets yesterday and we did see a lot of vacant units which is a bit unfortunate but thankfully on this retail park it looks like every store is still sort of trading and hopefully they are trading well.
“As a retail company we do need all retailers to be open to kind of drive in a retail space so we just hope that with this new store and showing a bit of confidence in the market, most stores can bounce back if they can.
“From our perspective we are going to keep on going as far as we can in all of our stores really.”
Ciaron explained the difference between a normal store and the XL stores.
He said: “Bolton’s store is the biggest physical store that we have in the UK now so it allows more sale space on the floor, more retail space on the floor but where we really benefit from will be the furniture section, there is a lot more space to allow more articles so customers in Bolton will have a much wider choice of products in store compared to any other store we have in the UK.”
The ‘sleeping and living experts’ have a range of items on offer for customers including bedroom items, bathroom items, cosy throws, homeware, indoor and outdoor furniture and more.
Ciaron said: “Anything and everything from the home, you can find it in this store for sure.”
JYSK has seen record results in the UK and Ireland during the financial year 2021/2022, increasing its turnover 11 per cent despite challenging trading conditions.
For the next week customers can enjoy 20 per cent of their purchases and on top of that there are other offers to be found.
