Police were out and about in Bolton carrying out speed checks yesterday.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team broke out their speed guns yesterday afternoon, August 16.
Taking place 'around Bolton', the speed enforcement comes as part of Operation Portman, which was launched in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town.
A spokesperson from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team said: "Officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team have been conducting speed enforcement around Bolton this afternoon.
"This is helping to tackle just one of our priorities to make Bolton’s roads safer, as well as to prevent and reduce harm under the Chief Constables’ Plan on a Page.
"Too many people lose loved ones on our roads or suffer serious injuries due to speeding and we intend on doing what we can to prevent this from happening. Operation Portman."
Hundreds of drivers have been reported for different alleged driving offences since the launch of the operation more than 12 months ago.
To help them catch speeding drivers, officers have acquired two laser devices to record speeding vehicles.
Officers said that the operation has resulted in a huge reduction in serious injuries in Bolton.
