Firefighters remained on scene this morning at the Mallison Street business.
Three fire engines attended, with firefighters using specialist tools.
The road was closed as emergency services dealt with the the blaze.
Steve Wolfenden, Operations Director at ACDOPRO, said: "The fire was out in the yard at a compactor. It has not come into the building."
He said that they "don't yet" know what caused the fire.
He continued: "We are waiting for the skip hire people to move it away, then we can look behind it.
"It has been self contained within the compactor, outside the building in the yard.
"It has happened through the night so nobody was on site, and it was not in the building so there are no issues."
This morning, firefighters were at the back entrance of ACDOPRO on Back Seymour Road. A fire hose could be seen running out of the street and across Seymour Road.
Speaking at just after 7am, spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:
“Just after 12am this morning, August 16, three fire engines from Bolton North and Bolton Central fire station were called to reports of a fire involving an industrial unit on Mallison Street, Bolton.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, one angle grinder, a chimney nozzle, a lance, dammit mats and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.
“Firefighters are currently at the scene and have been in attendance for around six hours.”
One resident said: "We just saw the fire engines coming through at night.
"I saw fire engines and didn't think anything of it, but then I heard them use a saw to cut the lock on the gates.
"I also saw a bit of smoke coming out."
The resident says this happened at around midnight.
He continued: "It is a shock, the business has been there for quite a bit. You think 'how would that happen?'
ACDOPRO has been running in Bolton for over 100 years, celebrating a century as the Astley Chemical & Dye Company (ACDO) in 2019.
The company now exports products to over 80 countries, but continues to operate from the same Mallison Street factory set up by its founder.
The factory creates a range of well-known products, including Dr Beckmann carpet stain remover and Glowhite cleaner.
