Bolton’s own hometown university has been ranked as 'simply the best' in the region for teaching.
This was found by the National Student Survey for 2023 which posed several questions to students all around the country.
It reported that the Deane Road based University of Bolton scored 87.4 per cent for positive responses about teaching, ahead of the 11 other universities in the North West.
Vice Chancellor Professor George E Holmes said: “The staff at this university have excelled once again.
"Throughout the pandemic they were sector leading, during the recent national industrial action they put students first and it shows in these outstanding scores.
“Colleagues at this university can be justifiably proud of their amazing students and the gold standard student experience which our team is providing."
This puts the University of Bolton ahead of other nearby institutions including Russell Group member the University of Manchester as well as Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford.
The survey is managed by the Office for Students on behalf of the funding and regulatory bodies for the UK universities sector and is the only official league table published.
This year, the overall student satisfaction question was removed along with other changes to how the survey is presented.
The questions were grouped around the theme “teaching on my course.”

They included “how good are teaching staff at explaining things” to which just over 90 percent of Bolton students responded positively, and “how often do teaching staff make the subject engaging” which just over 85 per cent gave a positive response.
The were also asked “how often is the course intellectually stimulating”, which had a positive response rate of again just over 85 per cent from Bolton students and “how often does your course challenge you to achieve your best work”, which had a positive response rate of just over 87 per cent.
The university says they now hope to make their teaching achievements more widely known.
Professor Holmes said: “It’s time to shout it from the rooftops the University of Bolton is simply the best in the North West when it comes to teaching.”
