Motorists slowed down as they clocked police carrying out speed checks in the Horwich and Blackrod area.
Neighbourhood officers from GMP Bolton West carried out the exercise in three areas on Sunday.
They visited Lever Park Avenue in Horwich, as well as Manchester Road and Vicarage Road in Blackrod.
A spokesperson from GMP Bolton West said: "Operation Portman. Officers from the Bolton West team have been out and about conducting speed checks on motorists in Horwich and Blackrod.
"When speaking with our communities, road safety is often raised as a big concern. Locations visited this morning were Manchester Road and Vicarage Road Blackrod and Lever Park Avenue Horwich.
"No traffic offence reports (TOR's) were needed today, hopefully anyone thinking of speeding saw officers and slowed down which is the positive message we aim to convey."
Operation Portman is currently running in Bolton and was launched in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town.
Hundreds of drivers have been reported for different alleged driving offences since the launch of the operation more than 12 months ago.
To help them catch speeding drivers, officers have acquired two laser devices to record speeding vehicles.
Officers said that the operation has resulted in a huge reduction in serious injuries in Bolton.
