A new sandwich chain outlet could be coming to a busy area in the heart of Bolton town centre.
This comes after plans were approved by Bolton Council for new Subway signage above an empty space on Deansgate, that was once occupied by a Carphone Warehouse.
Cllr Richard Silvester, who represents the Queens Park and Central area which includes the town centre, says he believes this could be an ideal location.
He said: “It is correct that an application for new Subway brand signage has been approved by the Planning Department for this empty premises at 67 Deansgate in between the present Three phone shop and Cafe Nero, on this corner close to the Fred Dibnah statue.
“This is in the heart of Bolton town centre and is in a busy pedestrian area.
“It will be good news if this premises is going to be converted into a Subway in due course.
“It's been empty for a while after Carphone Warehouse moved out.”
The premises on Deansgate is currently standing empty with a to let sign attached and shutters down behind the windows.
Subway already has branches at the Crompton Place shopping centre as well as on Newport Street and Derby Street.
The location, right in the town centre with various other businesses and public services nearby, could prove to make it a popular option for people on breaks and finishing work.

It will also cater to increasing numbers of people living in the town centre as more and more housing plans go ahead.
If further plans for a new Subway go ahead it will join other nearby chain outlets including a branch of Greggs, Café Nero and McDonald's all clustered around Deansgate.
Cllr Silvester said: “I work in an office not too far away from the premises and I know that fellow office workers would like such a facility around that location, so it will be a welcome addition.”
The plan for the signage was first put before Bolton Council on Tuesday July 11 this year and was approved on Monday August 7.
