A proposal to build houses on a former school site will be up for debate next week.
The project aims to build 27 homes over what has most recently been the temporary Eden Boys School site off Cotton Street in Halliwell.
This will mean cutting down nine of the existing 14 trees in the area, but the planting of another 20.
A Bolton Council report said: “The site is that of the former Falcon View Learning Disability Service Centre but was most recently as a temporary school, Eden Boys.
“The building has now been demolished with only the hard surfaced areas and foundations remaining.
“Due to a period of vacancy, a degree of natural regeneration has occurred.”
It added: “To the west of the site, a row of prominent trees are located on Cotton Street but no works are proposed to the these trees.
“Beyond that and surrounding the site on three sides are the typical traditional terraced houses of Rushey Fold Lane, Halliwell Road and Olga Street.
“The exception to this characterisation is Nut Street to the east which contains some small scale garages, two dwellings and an electricity substation.
“Wordsworth Street also forms part of the eastern boundary and is again characterised by traditional terraced housing.”
The new houses, all of which will be classified as “affordable” will be made up of 19 two storey terraced houses and eight “cottage apartments.”
The area in Halliwell has previously been used as the Falcon View Learning Disability Service Centre but was more recently adapted as the temporary site of the Eden Boys School.
The school has since moved to its new home on Wolfenden Street leaving the Cotton Street site empty.

But since then several new trees have grown along with greenery across the site.
So far only one letter of objection has been received from a resident on Halliwell Road who has raised concerns about overlooking and the potential loss of light.
But Bolton Council officers have recommended that elected councillors delegate the decision to the authority’s director of place.
The vote will take place at a meeting of the planning committee at Bolton Town Hall on Thursday August 17.
