A Bolton takeaway which has just celebrated its 28th anniversary has been nominated for an award as part of the Food Awards England.
Spice Island Bolton based on Tonge Moor Road have shared their happiness after finding out they have been nominated for Takeaway of the Year (North).
Joynal Uddin, 57, Manager of Spice Island said the Indian/Bangladeshi eatery has won the award once before in 2019 and this is the third time they have been nominated.
Speaking about the excitement, Joynal, from Halliwell, said: “We are really happy, we have been running this business, myself and my business partner Mehbub Hussain our head chef, for 28 years and we are really happy about the news we were nominated for this award and to gain the recognition from the Food Awards for all of our hard work over the years.
“The staff are really hard working, we are a family run business.
"We have two generations working here we have got cousins, brothers and it is basically a family run business, and we are proud to be representing Bolton at these awards.”
Joynal said he was ‘really happy’ when he received the news on August 8.
He said: “They emailed us saying congratulations you have been nominated and I was like wow, I just stood up and was really happy.
“We will find out if we have won at an awards ceremony in October but before then we have to collect supporting evidence such as customer reviews and also share a link to get customers to vote for us, so it goes off votes too.
“And then the judges will look at the supporting evidence and decide on their winners.
“The award isn’t just for Indian restaurants its for all the different combined cuisines that are available, so it includes Chinese, Mediterranean, fish and chips and more.
“We were nominated for Takeaway of the Year, and we won this award a few years ago as well and we have also been nominated for it twice before and then nominated this year as well, so three times we have been nominated.”
