A new challenge awaits a plucky 10-year-old who is swapping his go-kart for the Scottish mountains.
Joshua Lowe from Little Lever will be attempting to complete the Three Peaks challenge with his family to raise money for two charities after his 76-year-old grandad, David Rose, was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year.
The racing star is close to his ‘pappi’ as they spend a lot of time together, and wanted to do something to raise awareness and thank The Christie where his grandad is receiving treatment.
His mum, Natalie Lowe said: “Joshua wanted to give back, especially because his grandad is his best friend and biggest supporter.
“He wanted to be involved somehow and asked if he could do something, it was all his idea.”
The young racing driver cannot climb the peaks himself, so his family will be joining him on the expedition from September 15-17.
Natalie said: “It was unexpected when we found out about my dad because he was very fit and well.
“Joshua has been very up and down and quite upset at times.
“But they’re so close, his grandad looked after him a lot when he was born and they spend time together at cricket, football and races.”
The family have been struggling since the diagnosis, but Mr Rose is currently going through immunotherapy.
Natalie said: “It’s been awful and heartbreaking.
“He went downhill since Ocotober and over Christmas we thought it would be his last with us, but he is putting up a good fight and I think it’s just for Joshua.
“He wants to watch him succeed and do well.
“But he is very poorly too.”
Mr Rose has already gone through bouts of chemotherapy, which was successful, but was forced to stop after he suffered a heart attack.”
The family have been training for the three peaks challenge, with lots of walking.
But this is not the first time Joshua has undertaken strenuous activity as he is a young racing driver hoping to follow in the footsteps of his racing idol, Max Verstappen.
The family will be climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.
Joshua also took part in a triathlon last year to raise money.
