A video has surfaced of what appears to be a dolphin diving in an out of the sea in Blackpool.
In the video, taken by Blackpool Beach Patrol Team, we see what appears to be a dolphin close to the promenade shore line.
A spokesperson for the team said: “Dolphins have been spotted by our Beach Patrol Team earlier today. Keep your eyes peeled if you are out on the promenade.”
Since posting the video it has received hundreds of comments.
One person said: “I saw them about an hour ago by the glitter ball.”
Another said: “I hope the dolphins return.”
“That’s amazing,” said another.
It is not the first time a dolphin has been spotted in Lancashire’s seas.
In June a pod of dolphins was spotted near Fleetwood.
A video, taken Emma Lemon, shows several dolphins swimming in the water, near the Wyre Light lighthouse in Fleetwood.
The Irish Sea, off the Lancashire coast, is home to several species of the dolphin family, including the common dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, and Risso's dolphin.
If you wanted to spot a dolphin for yourself, a beach patrol manager has issued some tips and advice.
They said:
- Weather is key - warm and sunny climate
- Steady, calm tides are ideal
- June, particularly the first few weeks, is the most likely time they’ll be spotted.
