A schoolboy from Bolton has been inspired by a recent campaign to do his bit to help hungry children.
Though just 11 years-old, Milan Paul Kumar decided to volunteer his time at Urban Outreach, a Bolton based charity that helps households in crisis.
This comes after The Bolton News launched the No Hungry Kids This Summer campaign, which sparked young Milan’s inspiration.
He said: “After reading Bolton News last week I immediately signed up to volunteer my time at Urban Outreach.”
He added: “Every day I have been waking up at 5.45am to start my volunteering job at 6.45am at Urban Outreach.”
“I love the responsibility.
“On the first day I restocked the crates with water bottles, mini cheddars and brioches.
“On the second day I was packing these items into paper bags and filling totes.
“Today I was fruit sorting 50 red, juicy apples into totes wearing a hair red, apron and rubber gloves.”
Urban Outreach works by delivering support across a range of different areas including supporting people in need’s health and people at risk of homelessness.
It also works with children and families and provides food and cold weather support.
The Bolton News has now committed to helping them go about their vital work by aiming to raise around £5,000 over the summer as part of a wider campaign to help tackle child poverty.
Milan’s work with the Bolton charity has included sandwich making, fruit sorting and bag packing.
This comes after a series of accolades won by the Bolton youngster, including having been made an #iwill ambassador and receiving a Diana Award.

Milan’s charitable activities have also taken him to Poland earlier this year to try and help children and their families displaced by the conflict.
Now he hopes to inspire other young people in the town to follow his example and help others.
Milan said: “I feel proud of myself volunteering in my hometown making a difference to the lives of struggling families.
“No child should ever be hungry.”
“I hope to inspire more children in Bolton to volunteer a couple of hours of their time to help other children.”
