A teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a horror crash on the M61.
The incident, which happened yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) at around 4.30pm, closed a section of the motorway for much of the evening.
Emergency services were called when a Ford Focus crashed into a Ford Kuga, before hitting the central reservation and a bridge, near junction 8 at Chorley.
The driver of the Focus, from Wesham in his late teens, was taken to hospital with a serious injury.
The driver and a passenger in the Kuga, from Manchester, suffered minor injuries.
The northbound carriageway was shut until 10pm while specialist collision investigators attended.
Police would like to hear from anybody with dashcam footage or who saw the collision or the Focus or the Kuga in the moments before the incident occurred.
Sgt Helen Parkinson, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said: “This collision has left a young man in hospital with a serious injury and we are determined to piece together exactly what occurred.
“If you saw the collision, or if you have any dashcam footage, please get in touch.”
Anybody with information should contact call 101, quoting log 987 of August 1.
