A grant has now been allocated in Westhoughton to bolster youth activities in the area.
Westhoughton Town Council has allocated a grant of £6,000, which was approved during a council meeting on Monday night, July 31, to prioritise youth and play provision in the community.
Administered by Bolton Play and Youth Services, the grant will enable the implementation of various engaging and enjoyable activities for young residents throughout the summer season.
Among these initiatives is a "Fun Day" scheduled to take place on Friday 18 August at Central Park, with additional details to be released soon.
Throughout the summer there has also been a wide range of activities planned, catered to children between the ages of four and 12, including sports, crafts, games, and free play.
Town mayor councillor Deirdre McGeown said: "The grant awarded exemplifies our commitment to promoting a vibrant and thriving environment for the youth of Westhoughton."
Deputy town mayor councillor Neil Maher said: "We are delighted to support and invest in our community's young residents, offering them enjoyable experiences that contribute to their personal growth and well-being."
No prior booking is required to participate in the activities, making them accessible to all interested youngsters.
The sessions will take place at Eatock Way on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 6pm on the following dates: 1st, 4th, 8th, 11th, 15th, 18th, 22nd, and 25th August 2023.
Additionally, events will be held at Washacre Primary School on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12pm on the following dates: 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th August 2023.
Furthermore, Central Park will host activities every Friday for five weeks from 11 am to 3 pm, providing ample opportunities for young participants to enjoy the outdoors.
The council is also exploring the possibility of introducing evening mobile sessions after the summer break.
To ensure outreach to more local youngsters, the Bolton Play and Youth Services will deploy their dedicated Outreach Team once a week, either on Friday or Saturday, in and around Westhoughton.
