A Bolton man has organised a charity run to raise much-needed funds for Bolton Hospice, with delicious cakes for when participants cross the finishing line.

‘Smithy’s Charity 5k Cake Run’ will take place on Saturday 12 August, setting off at 11am from Rainy’s at Deakins Park, Egerton.

It has been organised by Matt Smith, of Bromley Cross, who has been organising regular run events to raise funds for the hospice since his father, Andrew Smith, passed away from Motor Neurone Disease six years ago.

He spent the final six months of his life at the hospice.

Matt said: “This is a great way to help and have some fun in the outdoors, as well as enjoying lovely coffee and cake as a treat.

“A big thank you to Rainy’s who have been great in supporting the event and are providing the all-important cake at the finish line. We will also have Fratelli’s present on the day offering a selection of pizzas and street food.

“I would also like to thank local businesses Portfolio for donating their services with publicity materials and Fogarty’s insurance for providing the insurance cover to enable the event to take place. Walmsley Church have also been really supportive in letting the route pass through the church yard.”

Matt added: “Everyone has been amazing and now we just need as many people as possible, no matter what your age, athletic ability, to come along and take part.”

The children's one kilometre race is free to enter and starts at 9.45am, with a cake at the finishing line.
