TRIBUTES have been paid to a former chairman of a community group, who has died.
Carol Warburton was the current chairperson of the ‘Johnson Fold Youth and Community Support Group’ , passed away on July 14 at the age of 62.
The Bolton News reported in November 2021 that Carol was set to re-open the youth club in memory of a selfless 84-year-old Lillian Kearns who tried to keep young people off the streets.
She died in 2005 but left a lasting legacy in her community work especially starting the club.
After her death, the club ran for a few years before dissolving but Carol was determined to bring it back in time for what would have been Mrs Kearns 100th birthday on November 23.
Ex-council youth worker, Gerry Luczka said: “She was very dedicated to help others in the local community and even during her illness was still working hard to make sure young people on the estate got some provision during their leisure time.
“Most people would say they loved it and kept going right up to the end.
“She was well-loved and I am sure there are lots of people will say she should never be forgotten for the opportunities given to young people living on the estate.
“She was very well-liked in the community.”
She leaves behind two sons John and Adam, her husband John, daughter-in-law Victoria and granddaughter Mya.
Son John said: “She was a caring, selfless, beautiful woman to her family and the community.
“Her other hobbies were colouring and going for lunch with friends.”
The funeral is at Overdale Crematorium West Chapel, today at 3pm
