A new seven day a week pizzeria promising “authentic, high quality” Neapolitan meals has been given the go-ahead.

Tesoro is now set to open at Dale House on New Hall Lane in Heaton after planning chiefs decided this week to approve a plan for the new restaurant.

The committee had heard concerns about parking and opening times but ultimately ruled that the idea would benefit the area.

Joe Whittaker, representing the restaurant, said: “With a strong emphasis on authentic and high quality Neapolitan meals we can create something fantastic for the town.”

He told the members that he hoped the venue would create new jobs, support and would prove to be a positive use for what until now been a vacant unit.

Mr Whittaker said he was looking forward to “welcoming people in.”

The proposal had already received 29 letters of support but 31 had also written in opposing the idea.

Cllr Anne Galloway, who represents Heaton, Lostock and Chew Moor, spoke out against the scheme.

She said: “The policy for Bolton is that applications for restaurants should not be made in predominantly residential areas.”

“This part of Heaton is a predominantly residential area it is not a shopping parade.”

She added: “It is a good business, but it is inappropriate for this location.”

Resident Desmond Jones also spoke out in opposition.

He said: “It is clear that this is a predominantly residential area with limited commercial developments.”

He added: “This is not a shopping parade neither has it ever been one in my 30 years of residence.”

But committee member Cllr Emily Mort felt that it would be a positive facility for people in the Heaton area.

The original plans had meant for the restaurant to open from 10am to 10pm every day.

But after the town hall debate this week, an amendment was proposed by Cllr Roger Hayes, who represents Smithills, that it should close at 5pm on Sundays and on Bank Holidays.

This, he said, would help limit disturbances to people living nearby.

When put to a vote the committee voted unanimously to approve the plan, on the condition that it keeps to the earlier Sunday and Bank Holiday closing times.
