A popular coffee chain is a step closer to opening in Bolton.
Just this week Canadian headquartered chain Tim Hortons applied to Bolton Council for a licence to open a new 24-hour branch in the town.
If approved the premises will be opened at Burnden Retail Park off Manchester Road in Great Lever at the former Thomas Cook and Hays Travel building.
A statement with the original plans said: “We are proposing that the unit operates 24 hours a day.
“Tim Hortons is a relatively new entrant to the UK market and can best be described as a restaurant chain with a coffee and bakehouse offer.
It added: “The Tim Hortons offer is different from that provided by the likes of McDonalds, KFC and Burger King and is comparable to that provided by coffee shop operators such as Costa or Starbucks, with a substantial part of the offer comprising hot and cold beverages and bakery items, including an extensive choice of donuts."
Tim Hortons was originally founded in Canada in 1964 and has become a well-known site in cities and towns across the UK as well as operating across 15 countries around the world.
Elsewhere across the city region there are already branches operating in Manchester city centre, Rusholme, Salford, Stockport, Trafford and Bury.
The chain specialises in coffee, doughnuts, sandwiches and other kinds of fast-food items.
If approved the new Tim Hortons Bolton branch will be allowed to open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
It will join a cluster of other businesses on the site of Bolton Wanderers’ former home at Burnden, including Asda, Home Bargains, B&M and others.
The company has also applied to be licensed to serve late night refreshments between 11pm and 5am.

Plans for the outlet were put before Bolton Council in November 2021, with the licencing bid now following up.
The bid will now be considered by the licencing committee, who consider whether applications like these are likely to cause any issues around the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisances and the protection of children from harm.
The bid was first put before Bolton Council on Monday July 17 and will be open for representations until Monday August 14.
The licencing committee will then meet to decide whether or not to approve the bid.
