Police say a man has been arrested after a cannabis farm was discovered in the centre of Farnworth.

Officers were made aware by the electricity board that there was suspicious activity going on at an address.

As a result police attended and discovered a large cannabis grow which featured more than 140 plants.

One man was also found in the property and police say he was arrested.

Police have shared an image of the cannabis plants which were discovered which shows a large number of grows located underneath lighting.

A GMP spokesperson said: "The Farnworth Neighbourhood Team were notified by the electricity board of suspicious circumstances at an address in Farnworth Town Centre. "This resulted in officers locating a large cannabis grow with over 140 plants.

"One male was found inside the address and was subsequently arrested.

The cannabis farm is the second one to be discovered in Farnworth by police this week.

Neighbours reported suspicious activity to the police and a raid took place.

A man was arrested at the scene after a large number of plants were discovered.

The issue of cannabis plants and reporting them in Bolton was raised with police at a Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting in Breightmet.

It was asked what was needed before police can carry out a raid after two fires had taken place which were linked to cannabis farms.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Dan Richards said three different sources of information were required before a raid can be carried out.

He also said a police officer being sent to gather intelligence can be classed as one of these piece of intelligence required.

Last month a fire was started on Mobberley Road which was linked to a cannabis farm.

Fire service were called at around 11pm and battled the blaze into the early hours of the morning.
