Plans for a new pizzeria and wine bar are set to be debated at town hall this week.

The proposal will see an existing building at Dale House on New Hall Lane, Heaton transformed into a restaurant, provoking a mixed reception from the nearby community.

But at the request of Cllr Andy Morgan and Cllr Anne Galloway, who both represent the area on Bolton Council, a vote will take place before the project can go-ahead.

A council report said: “The proposed development would bring a vacant building into use within a local shopping parade.

“Whilst being in proximity to residential properties, the proposed office and restaurant uses are considered to be compatible with the locality and would add to the vitality of the shopping parade.

“Only minor external alterations are proposed, which are considered to be acceptable in terms of character and appearance of the building and street scene.”

If approved the restaurant will open between 10am and 10pm, seven days a week.

So far the idea has provoked a range of responses from people living nearby with 29 letters in support of the application having been submitted alongside 31 opposing the bid.

Those supporting the plan have cited the lack of other food and drink options in the area and the jobs that a new pizzeria could create.

They also say that is ample parking nearby and that in any case, patrons are likely to walk to the venue.

But people opposing the bid say that they are concerned about a lack of parking and about extra congestion on the roads.

They are also concerned that a venue like this could be out of character with what is otherwise a quiet area.

Council officers have recommended the scheme for approval, while the highways department and Greater Manchester Police have lodged no objections.

But Cllrs Morgan and Galloway have both raised concerns about noise and parking issues and called it in to be decided by elected councillors.

The New Hall Lane proposal will now be debated by a full meeting of Bolton Council’s planning committee at town hall on Thursday July 20.
