A person has been pronounced dead at the scene of an incident at Lostock Railway Station.
British Transport Police were called to an incident at the station at 3.14pm today (July 13) after reports of a ‘casualty on the tracks.'
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to Lostock Railway Station at 3.14pm today (July 13) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"However, the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
An eyewitness at the time said that Regent Road was blocked off, with ambulance, police and fire on the scene.
He said: “There were police, ambulance and fire engines, and police were turning people around straight away.”
This resulted in delays of up to 60 minutes between the Bolton and Chorley line due to the emergency services dealing with the incident.
Some services running through these stations were cancelled, or delayed, which also affected Preston station, Salford Crescent, and Manchester too.
Network Rail, Manchester confirmed that the incident has now been cleared, with services now being able to run.
A spokesperson for Network Rail, Manchester said: “The incident at Lostock has been resolved and services can now run, but some residual delay may be experienced.
“We are sorry for the disruption and thank you for your patience”.
The lines were handed back to Network Rail at 4.37pm.
Disruption between Bolton and Preston has now ended and services are no longer affected.
