A primary school where children flourish has once again been marked 'outstanding' by inspectors for the Government’s education watchdog.

Moorgate Primary School in Tonge Moor was found to put “pupils’ best interests” at the heart of what it does and children are said to feel “very happy and safe in school”.

Lead inspector Kate Bowker reported: “Leaders, including governors, have have shown shown relentless determination to create a school relentless determination to create a school where pupils thrive.

“As such when pupils leave the school at the end of Year Six they achieve well and they are are suitably suitably equipped for equipped for life at life at a secondary school in modern Britain.”

Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who are disadvantaged “achieve exceptionally well across the curriculum”, said inspectors.

The report stated: “Any incidents of unacceptable behaviour are dealt with effectively and sensitively by leaders.

"This includes any rare occurrences of bullying. Classrooms including in the early years are hives of learning activity.

“Pupils enjoy learning and they contribute enthusiastically during lessons.”

Children are given a wide range of opportunities to enrich their learning.

Ms Bowker reported: “Through the curriculum leaders have found the right balance between academic success and developing pupils to be confident and resilient to setbacks. As a result pupils including those who attend the specially resourced provision readily display a can-do attitude and they are not afraid to have a go.

“Leaders have carefully considered pupils’ needs and developed an aspirational ambitious and challenging curriculum.”

Pupils’ personal development was praised by inspectors.

Ms Bowker said: “Pupils learn about the importance of democracy equality and tolerance. They understand the value of looking after their mental and physical health.”

Headteacher Debbie Hopwood said: “We are delighted that once again we are awarded Ofsted outstanding. The school continues to strive to give our ‘Moorgate Family’ the very best.”
