Yet another devastating car crash on an accident plagued road has sparked further calls to tackle speeding.
The latest crash on Halliwell Road occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving at least one driver with serious injuries.
Residents and business owners have spoken of their shock and, given the frequency of accidents in the area, have called for urgent action.
Cllr Kevin Morris, who represents the area on Bolton Council, said: “Again, it's not good what we’ve seen on Saturday night.
“We’ve had residents getting in touch saying ‘not again’ and asking about what we can do about getting speed cameras installed.”
He added: “We’ve been in touch with senior highways officers asking them to chase up the process of installing new cameras, because otherwise it feels like it's only going to be a matter of time until someone is seriously injured or killed again.
“I’m going out on Halliwell Road today speaking to residents and we’re going to ask senior highways officers to escalate this now and make it a high priority.”
The crash, involving two moving and two parked cars occurred at around 3am on Saturday when a car travelling down Halliwell Road crashed with another car turning right out of Draycott Street.
The car that had been hit was knocked towards the junction of Worcester Street, while the first continued to drive and crashed with the two parked and unattended cars.
Emergency services were called and the driver of the second car, who was trying to turn out of Draycott Street in Halliwell, was taken to hospital with what police described as “serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.”
The driver of the first car, a 33-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for police say they believed to be “superficial injuries.”
This came after a series of dangerous incidents on Halliwell Road in recent months, referred to by Cllr Morris, with a petition having been launched by resident Naz Vander after a crash affecting three people at the end of last January.

The petition calls for cameras to be installed in the area around Lloyds Bank as well as further down the busy road.
Police have appealed for anyone with any information about the most recent Halliwell Road crash to call 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 491 of 08/07/2023.
Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
Cllr Morris has also appealed for concerned residents to get in touch with him and his colleagues Cllr Rabiya Jiva and Cllr Safwaan Patel via their contact details on the Bolton Council website.
