Celebrations got underway to mark the new multi-million-pound deal with recycling giants Toughsheet and Bolton Wanderers.

It has been named as the most lucrative naming rights deal in the club’s history, and the stadium is now known as TS Community Stadium, following the previous agreement with the University of Bolton.

Owner of Toughsheet Doug Mercer says he is “very proud” to be associated with Bolton Wanderers, and to be supported by his staff during a special event.

He said: “It’s very good for Bolton Wanderers, but also for us.

“I am just very proud to be associated with Bolton Wanderers and supported by all my staff.

“It was the first day of the start of the five-year contract.

“We enjoyed a little party to celebrate with staff and friends.

“We are hoping to get up to the next level and this will go a long way to helping that.

“We started off very small and became quite a substantial company with over 85 people working for us.”

Doug was born in Heaton and set the Westhoughton company up in 1968.

The company also came together to say farewell to Alan Blundell who worked with the company for 40 years.

Dougi said: “We worked together since we were 16 years old.

“He has decided to retire early.

“He has always been more than an employee and part of the family.

“It was very emotional.”

Doug's 95-year-old mum presented Alan with a retirement present and a special cake.

Signs have already been put in place at the stadium, and road signs are in the process of being completed.
