A youth charity will soon be offering the Duke of Edinburgh award to the young people in their care.
Be the Change, a charity supporting young people in Bolton, will soon be able to run the Duke Of Edinburgh award programme.
This means the young people will be able to go on expeditions and an over night trip as well as help to learn new skills and undertake some form of charity work.
Group leader Daniel Sukula said: “It means we can offer young people a lot more things. It’s all about creating more opportunities for them and it helps them excel in other areas.
“There are a lot of new skills they can learn.”
Be The Change has been working on the project for the last six months.
The process can be costly as the centre’s own staff will oversee the award’s requirements once they have been trained sufficiently.
Daniel said: “We work with disadvantaged young people and it’s not always easy for them to access things like this due to costs.
“So, we want to make things accessible for them, so they don’t miss out.”
The young people are looking forward to starting the award.
Daniel said: “They are al really excited and already do things like go on residentials.
“They enjoyed it and have always wanted to do this.
“I never had the chance to do it myself and seeing the youth get this chance just makes me so happy.”
