A developer has bought a large tract of land in Bolton ahead of a major housebuilding project.

The total of 59 new homes will be build off Academy Way in Lostock by Ashberry Homes on land that had once been part of Bolton Wanderers FC’s training ground.

In a nod to the 3.78 acre site’s footballing heritage, the new development will be called “The Academy”, with construction work set to start this month.

Ashberry Homes sales director Grace Yarlett said: “We are thrilled to have acquired land in Bolton and receive planning consent for The Academy.

“Located less than four miles from Bolton town centre in the thriving and sought-after suburb of Lostock, The Academy benefits from great local amenities, highly regarded schools and excellent transport links.”

Ashberry homes has now unveiled artist’s impressions showing how they images a typical row of houses at the completed Academy development will look.

The development was given the green light at a meeting of the council’s planning committee in July last year.

The committee had heard concerns about the effect on parking and public services in the area but ultimately decided to delegate the scheme to the authority’s director of place for approval after hearing how it was expected to create new jobs as well as the homes.

Ashberry Homes has also made financial contributions to the area, including £195,860 towards secondary school education and £83,072 towards public open space.

Now that permission has been granted, the finished project will include a selection of three- and four-bedroom homes, including a range of semi-detached and detached homes.

According to plans put before the planning committee last year, the development is set to consist of 22 detached houses, 28 semi-detached and nine mews/terraced houses.

The scheme will also include nine two-bedroom houses, which the company has deemed to be “affordable.”

The building work will take place along with a through road linking the development to Bolton Wanderers Football Academy.

Ms Yarlett: “We are very much looking forward to build starting on site this month, providing the perfect collection of well-designed, modern homes for discerning homebuyers, with the first properties released for sale in early September.”

A show home is now expected to open in September 2024.
