A grandmother from Bolton has spoken of her devastation after she woke up to find out that seven "precious" ornaments had been stolen from her garden.

Margaret Harrod was gifted the items, including gnomes, from her grandchildren three years ago.

But she woke up at her home on Withins Drive, Breightmet, and found the items had been taken.

The owner says the theft has left her devastated.

The 77-year-old retiree said: “They were a gift to me from my granddaughters.

“I am really really upset about it.

“There is a lot of outrage in the area.

“I had insurance which covers them but I did not get the full value and it does not cover their value to me.

“It means much more than that.

“They were out the back of my house.

“I have always gone work on my garden.”

She added: “I have lived here since 2007.

“I have had things stolen before in 2010.

“I do not like being in my house any more.

“I feel less safe.

“I haven’t heard anything from the police about this.”

She was given a camera five weeks ago through her work at a nearby community centre which meant she had some photographs of the ornaments before they were stolen.

The ornaments including three sculptures of two people together.

One of these features two people on a seesaw, the other features a couple sitting down together and another is a man giving a woman a piggyback.

One of the smaller items features a rabbit and the others include small gnomes.

The theft took place between 11.30pm on June 22 and 5am the following day.

The stealing of the items were raised at a recent Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting at Red Lane Primary School in Breightmet.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
