A 91-year-old Bolton woman is ‘thrilled to bits’ after she received a signed card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla in response to a poem, she wrote for them for the Coronation.
Gwyneth Cleworth from Heaton sent a poem to the King with her best wishes on his Coronation and in return received a thank you card, leaving Gwyneth feeling ‘absolutely delighted’.
Mrs Cleworth said she loves to write poetry and has sent multiple letters to the Royals which they have responded to, but she never thought she would receive a signed card like she did late last month.
The poem read: “The Coronation of King Charles III
“What an amazing event for us all.
“A treasure to remember forever,
“And any time in life to recall.
“Our United Kingdom – not alone on this day.
“Support comes from far and wide
“Spreading good news in abundance,
“And sharing happiness by your side.
“We all wish you well as our King.
“A fantastic time for us all.
“Your wonderful road ahead now beckons.
“So, enjoy and follow this call.”
Responding to Mrs Cleworth, the card from King Charles and Queen Camilla said: “We are deeply touched by your most kind and thoughtful message following our Coronation.
“We are enormously grateful to everyone who took part in the celebrations, and particularly appreciate that you so generously took the time to write to us on this very special occasion.”
Speaking about the moment she saw the card, Mrs Cleworth said: “I write poetry all the time and I just like writing poetry, I love it and I have written to the Royals quite a few times, whenever something is being celebrated, I write a letter and I always get a reply back from all of them.
“But I have never received a card though with their initials on or with them being signed and this one has been signed by Charles and Camilla.
“I just thought it was wonderful.
“I was thrilled to bits when I saw the card, it made my day because it was my birthday when I opened it.
“I had just got back from a weekend in Wales, and I said oh I will just get my post in and because it was my birthday the day after, and I opened my post and I said oh there’s a letter here from Buckingham Palace and that really did make my day.”
