The family of a Bolton woman who has been left in a coma in Cyprus have expressed their shock and gratefulness after a staggering amount of money has been raised for her.
Ellie Horrocks, from Westhoughton, travelled to the island in May to 'fulfill her dreams of going abroad on an adventure'.
However, the 22-year-old has been in a coma since Monday, following a horror crash which left her with a serious head injury, as well as a fractured spinal cord and collarbone.
Now, Ms Horrocks' family are desperately trying to get her back home and to a specialist neurology hospital such as Salford Royal or Royal Preston.
In order to pay for an air ambulance to bring her back to the UK, the family need £60,000, which is not covered by her insurance.
So far, their GoFundMe page has raised £49,610 within 24 hours of being created.
Ellie's aunt, Sarah Horrocks, said: "It's absolutely incredible and overwhelming. As I look now, almost £49k has been raised and most of those people don't even know Ellie.
"There are so many anonymous donations as well, the family are amazed at people's generosity, it's something that we will always stay with us.
"We are really, truly grateful."
Ellie went to school at St Joseph's in Horwich and then attended Runshaw College in Chorley.
Her aunt said: "She just wanted to go and experience the world, life. She hired a buggy and I think she was going to see the sunset at 9.30pm on Monday.
"She swerved to miss a car and flipped and she has been in an induced coma ever since.
"Her mum went out there with my husband, her brother, as soon as it happened.
"It's really upsetting, they're only allowed to see her for one hour a day because she is in ICU.
"They are obviously taking care of her, but it is very difficult for her mum."
Ellie's mum, Leanne Horrocks, runs the Fun Fest Childcare Centre in Chorley.
Sarah continued: "It is a complete shock, she's just so full of life, just a friendly, sociable girl. She's fit and active, she loves hiking and the outdoors, and she has got such a brilliant personality.
"It's such a shock, it's upsetting and worrying."
Ellie's family would like to thank everyone who has donated and who continues to donate.
Sarah added: "The family are overwhelmed with everyone's kindness and messages of support."
