A Bolton resident has raised almost £5k to help those in need in Ukraine in a creative way.
Ken Hogg from Heaton decided to raise money by making hanging baskets for residents in Heaton, donating the surplus to Ukrainian funds to assist with humanitarian aid in Nova Kakhovka.
The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam was a fast-moving disaster that is swiftly evolving into a long-term environmental catastrophe affecting drinking water, food supplies and ecosystems reaching into the Black Sea
The chair of the Bolton Ukrainian group Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn says that himself and the organisation are “eternally grateful”.
He said: “His recent contribution will be even more essential to give assistance to those Ukrainians affected by the wanton destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam.
"Ken Hogg, a resident of Heaton, took upon himself to raise money to assist Ukrainians in their hour of need.
“Ken's efforts of last year were recognised by the board and organisation of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
“The Bolton Ukrainian Community will forever have Ken in our hearts.
“Ken, you are a hero of Ukraine."
Yaroslaw says that the amount raised exceeded expectations and he made so many baskets that he’s not sure how many he sold.
He added: “I am humbled.
“I didn’t meet Ken until last year.
“It’s just absolutely magnificent.”
The funds will initially go to Help Ukraine KH
