Bolton has had a starring role in a dramatic episode of the Disney+ series The Full Monty.
The town was starstruck when much of the main cast – including Steve Huison, Paul Barber, Mark Addy, and Robert Carlyle, who play Lomper, Horse, Dave, and Gaz, respectively, were spotted by Victoria Square in August last year.
Film Crews moved into Victoria Square to film inside the old Specsavers unit in Crompton Place Shopping Centre and could be seen rehearsing scenes.
The series came out on Disney+ earlier this month, and now The Bolton News can confirm that Bolton plays a starring role for an entire episode, with the old Specsavers unit in Crompton Place masquerading as the ‘Sheffield Job Hub’.
Bolton Council confirmed that the Job Hub interior scenes were filmed inside the Specsavers unit.
The sixth episode in the series sees Horse, who was in the original 1997 movie, being taken to the fictional ‘Sheffield Job Hub’ by Guy’s pregnant finacée Yvonne.
Guy himself disappears from the series after four episodes after Hugo Speer was written out from the series.
Speer faced accusations of nudity on set, which he denies and has called ‘tragic-comic’ in an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, leading to him being kicked off the series.
Oldham is also featured in the series, with two local pubs featuring appearances from new and old characters.

After being certified as ‘fit for work’, Horse loses his disability payments and is given a benefit sanction meaning he has no money for eight weeks despite not eating for three days.
Horse makes an impassioned speech to the job centre from the top of a chair while holding a packing knife and threatens to kill himself.
Another man at the Job Hub then takes people hostage, with the police turning up. More of the Monty gang turn up with food and emotional conversations ensue, including Yvonne finding out that her finacée Guy, played by Hugo Speer, is a ‘compulsive liar’ and questions her relationship.
The Monty gang then proceed to attempt a dance number in memory of their stripper days for the hostage-taker while still inside the Job Hub, all filmed in Bolton.
The episode ends even more dramatically, with armed police moving in and Horse suffering from a heart attack.
The Full Monty is eight episodes long and is streaming on Disney+ now.
